The
TopoCover™ was developed to provide a convinient way to
use and protect standard full-size 1:24,000-scale Topographic
Quadrangle Map (USGS's most familiar product) in the field.
By
folding topo maps in an ingenious way (illustrated instructions
are printed on the TopoCover™), the maps may be easily accessed
quadrant by quadrant. This allows you to see the NE, NW, SE, and
SW sections of the map without having to unfold and refold the
map. Instead, you may easily flip between the four quadrants like
the pages of a book. The waterproof vinyl TopoCover™ holds
the map securely in its transparent corner pockets, and then folds
closed to just 5.5 x 7 inches — about one-sixteenth the
size of an unfolded USGS topo map — so using your map when
you are out hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, skiiing, backpacking,
horseback riding, or biking in the wilderness just got a lot easier!

Additionally,
a free full color reprint of the USGS legend describing topographic
maps and symbols comes printed on a folding card designed to fit
securely within any one of the four pockets inside the TopoCover™.
Since the USGS maps themselves do have this lengthly legend already
printed on them, it is an important supplement to have nearby.
The map and the legend can be kept together within the TopoCover™
so there is always convinient access.

The
TopoCover™ also has a tranparent business card pocket on
the front. This allows you to write the title of the map on the
back of any business card, slip it into the pocket, and easily
identify and organize several TopoCovers™. You can keep
them clean and orderly on a bookshelf, in the glove box, or with
you when you are out in the field.

"The big thing about using TopoCovers while in the field is that it keeps your maps organized and protected from the elements. Before we started using TopoCover we used zip lock bags. The zip lock bags were good at protecting the map from the element but they would always get wadded-up and stuffed into your pack, after a few time of that it made the map hard to read and when you were done with your trip the most of the time the map was no longer any good. The TopoCover prevented this, plus makes it easy to store and organize your maps until you needed them again."
